WernerCo issues safety reminder during Tower Safety Week

Mar 10, 2021

This Tower Safety Week, WernerCo is reminding those working at height of the benefits offered by access towers, as well as the wide range of solutions available for different applications.

With falls from height remaining the main cause of fatal accidents in 2019/20 according to the latest Health & Safety Executive (HSE) ‘Workplace Fatal Injuries in Great Britain 2020' Annual Statistics, having the right working at height equipment is essential for helping to reduce this.

When working at height for longer periods of time, for example over 30 minutes, a tower is likely going to be a more suitable option over traditional equipment, such as ladders. However, when selecting an access tower, users should carefully consider the requirements of the site to ensure they have a suitable solution.

For most tradesmen, ease of use and configuration are two of the main factors that influence the selection of an access tower. Solutions such as the BoSS Ladderspan combine ease of use with versatility and durability. Designed to be used across a range of building and construction environments, the Ladderspan is ideal for maintenance and installation work, or for short-term access requirements.

Additionally, being able to safely social distance when working on site is essential, meaning the requirements for access towers has changed in line with this guidance. As such, one-person towers such as the BoSS SOLO access tower, are now incredibly popular, thanks to their ability to be built and dismantled by one person, rather than multiple people.  Alternatively, the new BoSS Pod 1500 is the lightweight but sturdy system designed as a single folding unit with 360º protection that is also ideal for single person use.

Sophie Ellam, BoSS Product Manager, commented: “Having the right access tower for the job is essential in ensuring user safety. Using an unsuitable access tower can in some cases increase the risk of accidents, so we hope this reminder will encourage tower users to take the time to make carefully informed decisions.

“At BoSS, we’re proud to offer a host of materials and guides to offer first-class sales team support in addition to a range of helpful materials and guides, which can be found on our website. This includes the BoSS tower selector guide, as well as a number of step-by-step videos that demonstrate best-practice for constructing our towers.”

The BoSS tower selector tool is designed to make the selection process easier than ever for tower users, helping to save them valuable time. The tower selector guide clearly sets out the key factors to consider, as well as identifying different solutions from the BoSS range to tackle various requirements and working heights.
